How to Make a Birdseed Wreath
This
is a fun way to teach kids about backyard birds, and
give them a craft to do at the same time! Everyone
can enjoy making a holiday seed wreath for birds.
The materials you need are:
1.
A twig or grapevine from a craft store. We worked
with 2 sizes, 6” wreaths and 3” wreaths. Both cost
less than a dollar.
2.
Peanut Butter – we like to use natural, unsalted
peanut butter
3.
Birdseed – Northwest Mix has a lot of black oil
sunflower seeds, which is the favorite of most seed
eating birds. It also contains millet and cracked
corn.
4.
Ribbon or yarn in holiday colors
5.
A Table Knife
6.
Natural-looking wrapped wire or any other kind of
hanger you might have.
Here’s how you make a holiday birdseed wreath:
Fashion a hanger out of the natural look wrapped wire,
or use an ornament hanger.
Use
the ribbon or yarn to tie a bow on the side or bottom
of the wreath
Smear on some peanut butter with the table knife,
avoiding the ribbon
Gently press the wreath into a bowl of Northwest Mix
birdseed.
It’s ready to hang outside for the birds! When the
seed and peanut butter has been eaten, you can bring
in the wreath and add more peanut butter and birdseed.
